Ultrasonic Testing (UT): Level II
Minimums from SNT-TC-1A Table 6.3.1A, Level I and Level II rows added together (note 1.0).
Experience may be spread over more than one method, but each method's minimum must still be met (Table 6.3.1A note 6.0). Up to 25% of the experience hours may come from documented lab work at a school, if your written practice allows it (paragraph 6.4).
These are the minimums published in the documents named above. SNT-TC-1A is a recommended practice, and your employer's written practice can set different hours. Where unsure, check your written practice.
Where these figures come from
- ASNT SNT-TC-1A, 2024 edition with 2025 addendum: Table 6.3.1A (recommended initial training and experience), its notes 1.0, 2.0 and 6.0, and paragraphs 6.3.2 and 6.4. The 2025 addendum does not change these figures.
- NAS410 Revision 6, Dec. 1, 2025: Table 1 (formal training hours), Table 3 (experience hours) and Table 5 (Level 3 experience). If your employer still works to an earlier revision, its figures may differ.
- Hours for methods not in these tables, and how earlier or military experience counts, are set by your employer. Check your written practice.
